The Alpha 200 series is the generation immediately before the Alpha 300, and Garmin still lists and sells both of these part numbers. The hardware is the familiar 3.5-inch sunlight-readable touchscreen handheld with 16 GB of storage, preloaded TopoActive mapping and on-device satellite imagery, tracking up to 20 assets out to a stated 9 miles on the MURS band.
The 200i carries Garmin's inReach technology: two-way satellite messaging, location exchange with other inReach devices, MapShare sharing and interactive SOS on an active satellite subscription. The Alpha 200 option here is the bundle — handheld plus an Alpha TT 25 tracking and training collar — which is the cheaper way into the system if you do not need satellite messaging.
Battery life is the main practical difference against the newer 300: up to 20 hours, or about 15 with inReach running, against 55 on the 300. Both units are IPX7, take a microSD card, and pair with the Garmin Explore app.
